Kung Fu Fridays in August

In September, no particular theme, except perhaps big stars. But wasn't that last month's theme as well? The poster features the wonderful Michelle Yeoh, who stars in two films shown round my place in August, though the image comes from neither of them. Bonus points for naming the movie it's from. Here's our actual line-up for the last month of summer:

Royal Warriors - A sequel to Yes, Madam! which I haven't been able to find, this is a Lady Cop stuntorama featuring Michelle Yeoh in badly aged 80s fashions. Expect cheese and low-level storytelling. The title probably has little to do with the plot.

Protégé - The crime thriller this month features house-favorite Andy Lau and is based on a true story about an undercover cop infiltrating the heroin trade. It got 9 Hong Kong Academy award nominations, including one for action choreography, so there's hope that it won't just be gritty tragedy.

Dragon Tiger Gate - Donnie Yen stars in the film adaptation of the hit manga, so we can expect a more superhero vibe to the action than in his more earthly cop action flicks. Go, go martial arts vigilantism!

Butterfly Sword - Started with Michelle Yeoh, end with Michelle Yeoh. But she's not the only recognizable face in this wuxia picture! There's Donnie Yen (again) and Tony Leung as well. That's three of my all-time favorites in one film, so a good way to close out the month.

I think it's gonna be a fun month.
